Batangas, Philippines

It was a chilly morning on a trip to Rizal with my friends. I was so looking forward to the sunrise but the heavy rainfall did not permit us.

Rizal is a province in the Philippines situated in the north east and a 2 hour drive from Batangas. It is also known as the “Art Capital of the Philippines”. We rented a van to check the places in Rizal – Angono and Tanay.

Budget for the trip inclusive of food and transportation: Php 2,000-00

Ricardo’s Vista del Cielo
Location: Marcos Highway, Mayagay 1, Sampaloc 1980 Tanay, Philippines

This should be a perfect spot to check out the sea of clouds. However, due to heavy rainfall we were not able to see it! The food was not to go crazy for, a bit disappointing as it was pricy for the taste. I only liked the place because it was overlooking Sierra Madre – the longest mountain range in the Philippines. I never hiked it but it would be better to do so someday. I also liked the cozy weather and the people in the restaurant were very accommodating. I’d rate this place 2.5 out of 5.

Kape Natividad Roastery and Cafe
Location: Marilaque Highway, Sitio Mayagay 1 1980 Tanay, Philippines

This was my favorite part of our trip. It is a local coffee shop which caters to affordable locally crafted coffee and desserts. I loved the carrot muffin, it has all the flavors of carrot cake that I love – moist and fluffy texture. So great for breakfast and of course while looking at the relaxing view of the mountains. I would really recommend this place – loved the interior – very tropic, soothing music, appetizing food and coffee for the win! Worth waking up at 2:00am for! I’d rate this 5 out of 5

Balaw Balaw Restaurant and Art Gallery
Location: 16 Doña Justa Subdivision, Phase I, Manila East Highway, Angono, Rizal

This restaurant caters to exotic Filipino dishes – frogs, bull’s testes, field crickets to name a few. I am a bit adventurous when it comes to food. However, this time I didn’t try them. haha! I’d like to try eating exotic dishes somewhere else. Although Philippines have varieties of exotic dishes to try, I’d want to try to eat snakes or crocodiles someday.

What I liked about this restaurant is they have an art gallery. I am not artsy but I find doing painting very relaxing. We explored the paintings and sculpture while waiting for our food. We had barbecue, pork sinigang and beef nilaga. I am not a fan of their food but this placec is still worth visiting in Angono. I will rate this 3 out of 5.

Medoth Phil’s Craft
Location: Angono Rizal

Angono is a place in Rizal known for their secular celebration of Higantes Festival or the giant festival/parade of the giants. In this place, we visited Santa’s house where they sell affordable Christmas decorations. I loved everything here, the Christmas spirit and the Santa Claus’s decorations. We bought 2 Christmas decorations for 1,900-00 Php/51SGD. You can still ask discount if you will buy more decorations.

I can’t wait to explore more places nearby because I just had my first dose of Moderna vaccine! 🙂
